Why I Am Redefining Women’s Health: Episode 3

Built Better Series

Why am I redefining women’s health? It started when I noticed a pattern in my pregnant clients and couldn’t find anyone studying it, so I did the research myself. That work led me to see hundreds of women, and a second pattern began to emerge, one that changed how I think about care. Combined with my own personal experience as a woman navigating the system, it pushed me to build something different. In this video, I share my story and why I’m building a new model of care for women.

When I first started Revitalize, I really thought that my role was actually going to be finding the missing puzzle piece for women. When I was a student and did a clinical in women's health, that's where I first saw just how sneaky the pelvic floor can be. Women would come into the clinic, and when we would start asking deeper questions about some of the other issues that they were having, they would tell us, “Oh, but that's a separate issue” and they had no idea that they were oftentimes connected. That was when I first really started to see that the overall idea that most people have is that every issue that they're experiencing are all separate, but that's also how they're being treated in the healthcare system.

We started getting referrals of pregnant clients to the clinic and treating them, and they were coming back after delivery, saying, “I had the best birth ever. I don't know what you did, but it was a miracle.” I went to the research and found nothing and that's when I realized that we needed to take something into our own hands and do the research ourselves. That's why we conducted our own research study based on the protocol that we created here at Revitalize to help women have better birth outcomes and really address a larger picture of the prenatal and postpartum space so that we can help address the maternal health problems that we're facing in this country.

A moment that really made this a reality for me was my postpartum journey, where I struggled to find solutions. I had to work with multiple providers, and then I was taking supplements to also try to feel better. My brain fog was so bad, and then it took me years after going through all of this to actually finally find the solution that worked. And I thought, with my experience working with so many women and my knowledge in the health and wellness space, I'm struggling with this. Imagine what women that don't have that are going through.

So my mission of redefining women's healthcare to me really means that we're creating a new standard, and we're doing that in multiple ways. The first way is actually with a different solution for women to put the right pieces in the right order for them, and part of that is also our own supplement brand, because I really wanted to feel confident and know that it was actually going to work for them. And then the other part is through our Revitalize Institute, where we're actually training the next generation of pelvic floor therapists in order to bring this outside of our local community and nationwide into other communities all over.
